"We live in a time when we need to take responsibility together - for our climate, our resources and the next generation." - Alexander Paul
About us
Welcome to the Alexander Paul winery - a family-run business in its 3rd generation, nestled in the gentle hills of Leobendorf near Vienna, in the heart of the Weinviertel.
Where the foothills of the Alps meet the Pannonian Basin, we cultivate wines with strong character, origin and signature with passion and care.
Our vineyards around Kreuzenstein Castle are rooted in deep loamy loess soils.
The unique microclimate, influenced by the nearby Danube, provides ideal conditions for the ripening of our grapes and the development of varietal aromas.
The focus is on Grüner Veltliner - the leading variety of the Weinviertel - fresh, spicy and unmistakable. Our range is complemented by international grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, which also thrive on our soils.
As a certified sustainable winery, the respectful treatment of nature and resources is particularly important to us - for the future of our wines and our environment.
History of the company
Our history - Three generations of passion for wine
For over 65 years, Weingut Paul has stood for honest, regional viticulture in the Weinviertel - rooted in Leobendorf near Vienna, supported by tradition, innovation and family craftsmanship.
Johann Paul Sr. made the start in 1958 when he planted the first vines in his garden. He soon recognized the potential of the surrounding slopes and gradually acquired some of the best sites around Burg Kreuzenstein. With great pioneering spirit, Johann Paul Sr. Together with his wife Maria, Johann Paul Sr. laid the foundations for today's winery - and also for his own wine tavern, which is still an important part of our history today.
In 1977, Johann Paul took over the business from his father and continued to run it consistently - with a focus on quality and foresight. In 1983, his wife Renate also joined the business and together they led the winery through the coming decades with great commitment and passion. A milestone was the construction of the current winery in 1981, which was extended again in 1999 to meet the growing demand for quality and comfort.
The next step followed in 2011 with the modernization and relocation of the cellar and the conversion of the wine bar - a clear commitment to state-of-the-art technology. In 2019, the cellar was moved again to its current location and extensively modernized.
Alexander Paul has been running the family winery in the third generation since 2021 - with fresh ideas, sound training, uncompromising quality standards and great respect for his family's heritage.
